Culture Awareness – Independence Day

Juneteenth 2014 is celebrating its 149th year. Juneteenth translates as June 19th, which is known as Juneteenth Independence Day, Freedom Day, or Emancipation Day. This day is a cultural holiday in America that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas in 1865. Even though Juneteenth is a state holiday in Texas, it is celebrated throughout local communities in the U.S. For more information, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth or http://www.infoplease.com/spot/juneteenth1.html.
