Last year I signed up to receive newsletter from “100 Days of Real Food” Here is her website: https://www.100daysofrealfood.com/
Most of the time I didn’t read them as they seem to be more focused on young children’s lunches. My children were grown but I was interested in her concept. Then right after Christmas she had offer that in 6 weeks you could get yourself off of process food. I wasn’t sure about all that was involved, but the price was inviting, I had thought about going back to Weight Watches but there prices were screaming at me and my pocket book could not wrap around the cost. So I decided to settle with this 6 week course from Lisa Leake. My legs were paining me and I wanted to eat better so I could serve the Lord better. So that is the reason I decided to try this course.
I learn things I had not even consider process before. Some of the ingredients has always baffled me not knowing why they were in there and why. So I learned some new things and started following the course. Each week she gave you something to work on. I have lost 10 pounds from following her course. Then I started walking and lost 10 more pounds. I seem to be able to keep it off. I haven’t walked lately due to my siatic nerve and back pain but as soon as I can I am going to get back into it again. I feel better. I have been able to get back into my smaller size clothes. I have more energy. I really recommend this way of eating. I don’t even count calories, I just make sure I eat my fruit and vegetables and occasional meat. I am not a big meat fan to begin with. I am more conscious as to what not to pick up. I stay out of fast food resturants.
I had some teeth work done recently and that really curved me away from white sugar which was another thing that helped me loose my weight.
I hope this helps someone that is wanting to lose weight and learn new things about the food culture out there. I am always searching for new homemade cooking ideas now. My board on pinterest called Recipes to try has some great ideas that I have used.
Some years back I met someone that wanted to preserve their family recipes that had been handed down. They were also gathering favorite recipes their children grew up with so they would not be lost until one day they would appreciate them or would want them.
So I gathered up my mom’s and my grandmother that have become familiar and well loved. I included the ones I have made recently and others that my daughter loved as a kid. Now if you know me I like to be creative when I give a gift whether to family or friends. Have you ever received a gift and you liked the package better than the item?. That actually happened to me this past Christmas. But of course I would not say anything to indicate this.
I looked for a photo album that would fit 4×6 recipe cards. I didn’t want it to be to big or awkward. I wanted to make sure it would fit on shelf and not be oversized.
I found a photo album that fit my criteria. The pages had plastic sleeves that my recipe cards would fit in perfectly.
I like that idea that families that garden together stay together. Based on that concept – my daughter seems to like bird things in her house. So I decided to use that as my theme. I came up with “Birds of Feather, Bake Together”
Then I gathered all my materials and made a mixed media cover to house the recipe cards. Here is picture of what I came up with. I used tape around edges using her favorite colors blue and green. Assorted paper to make my collage, ink, rubber stamps and rub on letters and then put modge podge over the entire front and back cover. I put the date on front so she would remember when she received this.
I am really happy to report she was really excited with her gift. She loved the cover too! Bingo nice when your daughter appreciates something you made for them. She also loved this because I left room for her to add some others as time passes by. It seems- she uses the same size card I use. Like Mother like daughter. She’s my daughter. So that all in nut shell for today!
I have friend who is moving away in few weeks. She is someone that comes to the library where I work. There have been many that have come and gone. Some have gone further to Heaven above.
I had this thought that I would write a little something in the beginning of her journal some personal effect of things we might have shared from time to time. But instead of using up her space, I decided to insert it in the front of the book. But then I received an inspiration, this idea popped into my head – I am going to place some of my favorite quotes amongst her pages so that when she reaches that page she will have a neat little quote to give her inspiration or or help her along her journey..
I hope this prompts someone to do the same thing. It could be a college student, or dear friend. either way I think it was neat idea. to send someone along their way….
Please take a minute of your time, can you draw, are you artist or just like to doodle this is nice way to help an organization raise money for those that are less fortunate then us. Surely you can come up with drawing, It isn’t very big its only 16cm x 12 cm on heavy cardstock paper. Certainly you have something laying around that you love to draw or have drawn why not send it off
no rewards, no recognition here, just sweet joy will come to you, because you shared your heart. Hope to see many others help
If you are not familiar with this story, you can read one version here at this website.
Ok, tonight I am working at the library in the Reference Department I had patron come in as her computer was not printing. She needed some assistant with our computers. She was printing out her nurses certificate from the state..
So one thing led to another. Soon we were talking about her job she holds at a nursing home. She works with few men that were veterans that suffer with bi -polar disorder/. Plus there are two women that suffer from something else.
She then mention that writing in journals has helped them by keeping them from wanting to take their own life. I thought that was amazing. I also could feel that she was intune, that she listened to them and had compassion for them.
She mentioned that she often buys them journals as well. One of the ladies doesn’t really write in hers, but writes numbers in them. I told her that maybe in her former life she may have been an accountant working with numbers. She agreed with me.
I personally write in a journal daily myself. Sometimes I get attached to some of my journals as they become my best friend. and hate to start a new one.
I don’t know how it came about but I decided to help her four people and volunteer to buy them journals. I asked if I could wrap them up and she said that they would be great as they liove to open presents.
So that is what I am going to do before the year end is out. I told her she can tell them it was from an angel. I am greatful that she crossed my path today. It is great feeling to help others. It brings much joy to your heart and soul.
Tonight, I was thinking about my journey and then suddenly the story of Acres of Diamonds came to my head. I remembered reading this story about 30 years ago. Don’t know why it popped into my head. But often we look past the mark, when all we need to do is LISTEN and bloom where we are planted. I am thankful to help some people that don’t have the means to pick up journal but can provide them with small gift.
May you look around you and see what you can do to help someone. I learned some where in my life, that when you are in the service of others, you are only in the service of the your Lord,
May God Bless you and help you to fined someone to bless. So if you read this I would like to challenge you to consider it tagging you and you find someone to help.
Till later, Mary O.
