I drive to work everyday. Sometimes I listen to music CD, sometimes I listen to my scriptures and sometimes I just do a lot of thinking.
Today I was one of those thinking days. I was doing some comparisons –
We were bottle fed when we were babies, then we progress to drinking out of a glass. Then we are at work and the rule of thumb is no open drinks at the desk, so we go back to bottle with squirt top to drink out. Have we really adapted to adulthood when we seem to be progressing backwards?
My next thought was our mothers had to blend our food so we could eat, they called it baby food. So are we not much different now then we were before. We now blend fruit and vegetables and seeds/or fruit together along with protein powder Then few of us are excited about the everyone is calling Smoothies – isn’t that really glorified baby food in an adult, grown up world. Just something to think about. What is your take on this?
A class you wish you would have taken? I wished I had taken class on how to solder jewelry and learned from my grandmother when I was younger. I waited till she was not able to do it. But when I retire maybe I will be able to find a class at a local college or someone that can teach me under their wing. Sometimes families are not as patience with you as others that are not related to you
Are you scared of heights? Yes, but my husband is too. I am the one that climbs up the ladder to clean out the gutters on daily routine
Are you a good cook? If so, do you consider yourself a chef? I think my cooking is enough to get us by. But I would say that I am not a chef by no means.
What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? I had a lady that came in couple of weeks ago to use the library she had a prosthetic on her left leg. I wanted to tell her that she was brave soul to walk around in shorts, but felt it wasn’t the right time. She came in to use the library again today, she came to the desk to have her copy released to be printed. I told her today that she was brave. Then she told me she was lucky to be alive. I had imagined that she had been in a car accident. But she went on to tell me that she was living in Florida and they have high rate of water moccasins in the state that can literally kill you .She stepped on one, he felt the warmed of her body and bit off her toe and kept pumping venom into her body. She almost lost her life, She lost her leg and later her husband became the care giver and she has separated from her husband and he got custody of their kids. But she is doing much better up here and she does visit them. I told her I would keep her in my prayers. I am sure she has her good and bad days. I also told her that she might be able to help someone else that may face the same thing she did.
I had another lady that was very nervous as her husband had lost his job, they tried to pay their rent but the landlord wanted it full. They came home to Illinois and she feared they would have to live in their car or be on the street. Things are looking up for the both of them now. I am sure it prayers. The husband has gotten a job up here. The wife may go to work at Goodwill as she has hand that had gotten crushed in car door and is limited as what she can do. I know they need faith and prayer of others. Things are looking up for these two people, her mother’s heart has soften and they are saying with them until an apartment comes ready for them to move into. God is good. I am thankful for the relationship i have with my Father in heaven as well.
In regards to puzzle what’s your choice: jigsaw, crossword, word search, mazes, logic or numeric puzzles, something else, or nothing? My family always had puzzles sitting around the living room to work on. Everyone would get involved from time to time. I think it has helped me to look at genealogy in different light because of working on puzzles.
List at least five favorite treats and it doesn’t necessarily have to be food.
- I think taking back roads and taking different roads and not really knowing where you’re going but the scenery on country roads are usually out of this world.
- I like to listen to country music on highway when hubby isn’t in the car
- I like going to flea markets
- Going to ocean, smelling salt water, walking on board walk. We did that when I was younger we would go in the summer time and stay at the shore. Walking in the sand.
- I like to visit cemeteries and upload request from Findagrave.com to help others find their family members.
What is your favorite type of dog? (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie)
My favorite dogs are muts or german shepherd mixed breed or cute dog that hits my emotional strings.
What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.
- Having my daughter come over to my new house and painting a room for me. Her daughter asked her mother – are we working for gramps and grandma and her mother said no, we are helping them out that is what family does.
- I met my next store neighbor’s little girl Alivia. She called me “grandma” right off the bat. I guess it was my white hair. Later I found out her grandmother doesn’t have white hair. But then her mother had her start calling me Mary. I thought it was cute at the time. Made me feel special.
- I have been out shopping for a new counter top for my kitchen and hit a sale so was very appreciative of this.
You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what is it? Sushi? Scotch Tape? This is hard question, asked a co worker and she mentioned money. But having money unlimited doesn’t always bring happiness unless you decide to use it to help others. That reminds me of movie called ” Christmas Angel” with KC Clyde, Kari Hawker, and Bruce Davison. I can’t think of anything temporal, but I would like to have my eyes to see and be in good health to serve others.
Teleportation or flying? I would prefer to fly. The TV show, “Bewitched”, she flew and disappeared so I think I would rather go that way then have to find a station that had teleportation. Angels come and go and they probably fly in from heaven or the 3rd dimension we can’t see. Harry Potter flew in a car so by the time they develop this we may be flying in our cars as well.
Would you rather live where it only snows or the temperature never falls below 100 degrees? I don’t care for the cold weather the older I get. I love the hot weather and have often said that to people who ask me how I am like the weather. Then I preceded to tell them why are you eating so much meat in the summer time. Meat holds heat and makes you hotter in the summer. Save if for the winter instead. Eat fruits and vegetables in the summer time and the heat won’t bother you as much.
What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? I went out to eat my lunch in my car today so I could enjoy the sun and the hot weather. I knew it was suppose to rain, but didn’t know it was going to feel like I was in a hurricane. At one point I thought my car was going to be picked up because of so much wind. Then the rain was coming down so fast and furiously that I started feeling that my car was going thru a car wash. That is how fast the rain came. Then it started to hail, it was bouncing off my back window class and roof of my car. I said a short prayer that it would let up so I could reach the door to get back to work on time. Sure enough he did and I am now safe inside but the air condition is to cold in here so I do have chill as I sit here and write this out for you all.
Artist are sharp-eyed observers, spies, Eavesdroppers. We watch, listen, and absorb things that others miss. We learn a great deal about the world, people, and human nature that way. But that’s not enough.”
We have to blend that knowledge with what we know about ourselves and what we want to say through our art- our ideas, wisdom, and understand. by Lauren Wolk
Interview by Pat Scales in magazine called Book Links page 4-7
Lauren Wok, author of the 2017 Newberry Honor Book Wolf Hollow, discussed Beyond the Bright Sea, her new novel about feeling isolated, searching for family, and experiencing the power of love
I was reading Book Link when this article above caught my eye and mind and fell in love with her quote above. I felt connected right away. So I decided to share.
If you were to pack a basket for picnic lunch, what would be in your basket? Broccoli with cranberries and red onion salad, some peaches for dessert. Some cold herb tea, Cloth table cloth and some paper napkins, maybe some flat pretzels for snacking.
On a vacation what you would require in any place that you sleep? A neck pillow, a book in case I can’t sleep or my phone plug in so I could scan Pinterest till sleep hit me.
If you were to buy a new house/apartment what is the top three items on your wish list? Well we recently did that, but I didn’t stick to the list.Hubby wanted 2 bathrooms, to live near his granddaughter and close to an LDS Temple. So instead we have one bathroom, near a train so we can visit granddaughter and an hour and 20 minutes away from LDS Temple.
What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? I have a very thoughtful husband, he recently bought me 2 non stick pans and they clean up so easily. I made some multigrain pancakes and there wasn’t terrible mess to clean up.
What household chore do you absolutely enjoy doing? (can be indoor or outdoor) I like gardening. I love being outside hear the trees or wind or birds or a train or the wind and I like to think or ponder out there or pull weeds around the plants. I like mowing the grass too because you can get at tan and lose weight. One week I lost a pound from walking around our yard mowing the grass. I was happy camper all week long.
Create a sentence with the words “neon green” and train”. We decided to take a ride on the train towards Pittsburgh. In the evening we started for the diner car only to find that all the chairs in the covers were neon green and carpet was navy blue.
Other than your cell phone what can you always be found with? I think it be a pen in hand, I am either see something that I want to remember or writing someone email, address or phone number down or drawing something that I want to work into something in my house hold plans.
What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? We had branch conference this week at church. During one of the combined meetings someone mentioned that they call their children, grandchildren and other relatives on Sunday to catch up and see how they are doing. I decided to do that this past Sunday. Found that my granddaughter lost two teeth, she is going to be Brownie next year and completed her Daisy badges and she may be placed in excel class. I don’t usually call every week as I don’t like to interfere but I talked to my daughter as well and she has had some exciting things happening at her job that she is part of. So it was nice to hear what she was up too.
