Ok, tonight I am working at the library in the Reference Department I had patron come in as her computer was not printing. She needed some assistant with our computers. She was printing out her nurses certificate from the state..

So one thing led to another. Soon we were talking about her job she holds at a  nursing home. She works with few men that were veterans that suffer with bi -polar disorder/. Plus there are two women that suffer from something else.

She then mention that writing in journals has helped them by  keeping them from wanting to take their own life. I thought that was amazing. I also could feel that she was intune, that she listened to them and had compassion for them.

She mentioned that she often buys them journals as well. One of the ladies doesn’t really write in hers, but writes numbers in them. I told her that maybe in her former life she may have been an accountant working with numbers. She agreed with me.

I personally write in a journal daily myself. Sometimes I get attached to some of my journals as they become my best friend. and hate to start a new one.

I don’t know how it came about but I decided to help her four people and volunteer to buy them journals. I asked if I could wrap them up and she said that they would be great as they liove to open presents.

So that is what I am going to do before the year end is out. I told her she can tell them it was from an angel. I am greatful that she crossed my path today. It is great feeling to help others. It brings much joy to your heart and soul.

Tonight, I was thinking about my journey and then suddenly the story of Acres of Diamonds came to my head. I remembered reading this story about 30 years ago. Don’t know why it popped into my head. But often we look past the mark, when all we need to do is LISTEN and bloom where we are planted. I am thankful to help some people that don’t have the means to pick up journal but can provide them with small gift.

May you look around you and see what you can do to help someone. I learned some where in my life, that when you are in the service of others, you are only in the service of the your Lord,

May God Bless you and help you to fined someone to bless. So if you read this I would like to challenge you to consider it tagging you and you find someone to help.

Till later, Mary O.

Compassionate Librarian

How does one become compassionate, does it happen slowly or is it something that is built in us and we don’t recognize it until we are faced with a situation?

What is your visual concept in  a day of librarian? Do you imagine she goes to work, and helps people find the items they want or do you imagine her sitting behind her desk reading a book? How often do you use your library?

I had quite the week.  Mr. X came into the library on Monday, he told me his story. He said his wife kicked him out, but he was glad to get away from her. Apparently she is bio-polar and very hard to live with. But consequently he  found himself homeless. So every day he was wanting to use the computer lab to find someone in his family that could help him.

He inquired about instant-gram and western union. The reference librarian looked into that for him. Well to make a story short, his mother in law comes to his rescue, she comes to our town and they meet up at the Salvation Army, she purchases him train ticket and blesses him with some much needed money. Meanwhile he later tells me that he had gone to McDonald here in town and told them he was homeless. They blessed him with a meal.

So today Mr.W is hanging out at the library, apparently he used to come in all the time, he asked me if I remembered him and I replied he was the fellow that could not read a regular clock, but only a digital clock, He said he was getting better at that.

Turns out he had been away from this place for two years and now finds he must leave. I am not sure what his story is, but he had parents, that let him call, but not sure how much help they were able to give him. So his step brother brings his clothes to him, as now he is not allowed to be in this city. This guy is young 19, I am not sure if he is street smart, but to me he is very young and has lot to learn. Sad case. I think he might have learning disability too.

I wasn’t sure but his half brother brought his clothes in grocery plastic bag which would probably soon tear and fall apart. So I decided to part with my Aldi’s cloth grocery bag so he could carry his clothes that way.  He was very happy to have it and told me it was better than the other bag. I know it had better handles on it too. I also didn’t have much money with me today,  but gave him my last $7 dollars. Then he needed a train ticket, they can not be purchased at our train station but has to be purchased online line, so they gave me money and I purchased his train ticket online. He was very appreciative. You could see he did have manners but somewhere got off on the wrong track.

So it turns out these two are going to become travel companions at least up to Chicago. Turns out Mr W. father was going to hire Mr. X but it didn’t’ turn out quite like it was suppose too. Mr. X seemed to have brains but just in rocky place presently. I don’t know why he came here, but I don’t know where he came from either.

So I sent up some prayers for the both of them, I told them that they needed to thank God that I was just an instrument for him that day. I tried not to get to involved. But they both came and thanked me for all the assistance I had given them. Some of it was part of my job and the other part was being compassionate towards others. Today was -1 degree so my heart went out to these two trying to find a warm place to rest their bodies. I hope and pray that they will be smart enough to figure out or someone will be put on their path that will open their hearts as I have.

Goodwill path

Good will to all men,

I was visiting our bank recently, when I notice they had put up this beautiful Christmas Tree. I called to ask where they had purchased the beautiful pine garland? They told me the whole tree came that way in three pieces already trimmed. Boy was it pretty. They had red berries, pine cones tied in here and there. Then they had put on tied bows on the end of the tree branches. Boy was in gorgeous!!!!

After seeing that tree and I have a photogenic mind of what it looked like. I have a friend that fractured her back recently. She was given the choice of cement inserted in her fracture or  take time to let it heal on its own. She choose the latter. Bearing this all in mind, I decided to make a small tree that could be pulled out a box ready to go. She had mentioned in an email to me that she would not be putting up a tree this year.

Meanwhile, I had gotten my Christmas Decoration out this year and came across this 6 inch tree and was not sure why it was up there. So I decorated it like the one I saw at the bank and since my friend would not have tree, I have decorated it for her. Then I thought you can’t have tree without a Christmas Present underneath, so I made a key chain and earrings for her.

Then as I was driving down the road, I was  pondering about how there are many people with out jobs, struggling etc. People talk about this world is getting darker. But if you think to much it can get you down. So I thought all I can do is look around me and see what I can do for others. We  just need to bloom where we are planted.

Hope someone will be inspired to do something for someone on your path
